Manifestation

I attended a meeting to review a student who is "Pending Due Process (PDP)" which means a manifestation meeting is the last meeting to determine if this kid is going to get kicked out of school.

This particular kid is Special Ed. He has a learning disability and major behavior issues. In the meeting, it was learned he is being abused. He would not tell us if it was still ongoing or if this abuse was in the past, but he said the magic words; "Because of the abuse is why I am so angry."

Since he was put on PDP because he punched a hole in the wall, the PDP was halted. He was angry because he is/was being abused so punching a hole in the wall does not get him a ticket out of school. Don't mind the fact he has 8 discipline referrals already for a VARIETY of issues, some having nothing to do with anger. He has a 16.2% in my class and 2 of his 8 referrals were written by me. He has only been in school since November 12, 2010.

This meeting took place on Thursday. It was decided he would be placed on an attendance and behavior contract to monitor his progress. One mess-up, and he is out of here. One referral and he is done.

Today he signed out the bathroom pass and was in the hallway. Another teacher asked him to see his ID since it wasn't around his neck. He refused to show it to her. Then, when he finally did show it to her, he covered up his name and student ID number. She followed him back in to my room and asked me for his information. I gave it to her.

Let's see how well these behavior contracts really work.....
