AIMS

Well, well, well..... Today was Day 1 of AIMS testing which is supposed to last for 3 days. Students who have to take the AIMS test show up at the normal class time 8:00am, and all other students have a late start and do not have to be in class until 12:00pm! I was assigned to administer the AIMS test in another teacher's classroom (they frown upon you giving the AIMS test in your own room). We were supposed to have 6 students show up to take the test, and only 1 showed up. 1 STUDENT! This is a graduation requirement! REALLY?!

What makes matters worse is that we are not allowed to grade papers, or be on the computer at all while we are administering the test. 3 HOURS OF DOING NOTHING! All because I had to watch 1 kid take the AIMS test! AUGH! Talk about a GIANT waste of time!

Other teachers had similar stories. The teacher next door was supposed to have 12 students testing and only 5 showed up. A teacher down the hall was supposed to have 9 and only 1 student showed.

What are we doing? Where is the accountability? Are we forcing an education on students who really don't care to begin with? Why are we forcing it? What more can we do? Students received letters to home, phone calls from counselors, and a notice at school if they were required to take the AIMS test. What more do they need?!?!
