Day 6

Today was a hard day for my kiddos. The pain and empty feeling felt by all students and teachers from the loss of two of our students was overwhelming. We started out the day in our homeroom class. The principal gave a video announcement stating grief and support counselors would be in the library all day available for kids. After the video announcement, the walls in my room are so thin, we could hear the cries of the other students in adjoining classrooms. I put on some Dave Matthews Band and we spent the whole period making cards for the families and students involved in the accident. Such a heart-wrenching day.

I finally got access to the gradebook system at our school and entered grades from last weeks homework. I bet I had a 50% turn-in rate. Even with the PINK slips! I am hoping this improves dramatically over the course of the semester.

I started the content portion of my lesson today with my BIO kids. I started with the Science Methods lesson and why we study science. I said to my last BIO period, "We study science and things that occur in the natural world. How would you prove that Never Neverland exists?" One of my students raised his hand and said, "Miz Dooley, I know Never Neverland exists - you just have to go to Michael Jacksons house in California. Isn't that Never Neverland?"

Insert laughter here......
